The disillusionment of the last World Cup has not dampened the optimism of the supporters of the XV of France. Quite the contrary. The traditional Odoxa survey, carried out for Winamax and RTL among 1,005 people on January 23 and 24 published this Sunday, January 28, reveals that 59% of French people predict a victory for the Blues during the Six Nations Tournament, which begins this Friday, February 2 with a huge clash between France and Ireland. Even 66% of rugby fans would like to see a French final victory.

The first match could already be decisive. But confidence remains essential since 80% of French people and 87% of oval ball fans predict a victory for the XV of France against the XV of Clover. Beaten in Dublin last year (32-19), the Blues would take serious revenge against a team which is also aiming for the title in this Six Nations Tournament.

Galthié man of the situation for 85% of French people

However, Antoine Dupont, the captain of this team, will not be there. The best player in the world 2021 has decided to devote himself to rugby sevens this season to participate in the Paris Games. A hard blow for the Blues, but not particularly for the supporters since 56% of them believe that this absence will not be too disabling. Confidence in Maxime Lucu, the Union Bordeaux-Bègles scrum half, who should take over, therefore seems very high.

Fabien Galthié also benefits from this confidence from supporters. Highly criticized after the elimination of the Blues in the quarter-final of the Rugby World Cup by South Africa (28-29), the coach remains the man for the job for 85% of French people and 94% of fans of rugby, who judge the former scrum half as a good coach. This figure is, however, in slight decline compared to his first mandate.

Despite everything, the French’s love for their rugby team remains strong. According to the Odoxa barometer, 86% of those questioned have a good opinion of the group of new captain Grégory Alldritt. The craze for the Six Nations Tournament, which will be played in different cities, the Stade de France being requisitioned for the Olympic Games, also proves this since tickets were snapped up as soon as they went on sale.
