Four people died in a fire in a hospital in Lower Saxony on Thursday evening. 22 other people were injured, six of them seriously. An expert report should now provide information about the cause of the fire (see video above).

The fire broke out on Thursday evening on the third floor of a wing of the Uelzen Clinic. According to hospital staff, there was heavy smoke. When the fire department arrived, cries for help could be heard. Together with the police, several people were finally brought to safety. The fire brigade managed to prevent the fire from spreading, but the fire still claimed four lives. Three people died directly in the hospital, another was taken to another hospital and died there. “We are deeply saddened, our sympathy and thoughts are with the relatives of the deceased and the injured people,” said a spokesman for the Uelzen Clinic. 22 people were injured, six of them seriously. Emergency room closed until January 12th The cause of the fire was initially unclear, and an expert report was commissioned. According to initial estimates, the damage could be more than one million euros. For the time being, several wards cannot be used, and no patients can be admitted or treated in the emergency room up to and including January 12th. About 50 patients were transferred to surrounding hospitals.
