The 6-1 double with which she was eliminated from the doubles tournament was not enough Roland Garros, the Russian player Yana Sizkova been arrested on Thursday evening. He just hadfinished her massage session after losing (paired with his partner Ekaterina Alexandrova) against Storm Sanders and Ajla Tomljanovic (girlfriend of the blue Matteo Berrettini), and therefore was still inside the stadium that hosts the tournament when Sizikova was taken by the judicial police.
According to what was reported by the French newspaper The Parisian, the arrest would have been very eventful, with Roland Garros security officers blocking the same policemen. Police officers also ransacked his hotel room. The Russian, number 101 in the world in double and number 765 in singular (and who in his career, of only prize money, earned about 230 thousand dollars), was at the center of an investigation opened last year by the Paris prosecutor for fraud between organized gangs and sports corruption, with the subject another doubles match of the 2020 edition.
The investigation started after, in the fifth game of the second set of the match lost by Sizikova and Brengle against the Romanian Mitu and Tig (it was September 30), it was found an abnormal flow of bets with tens of thousands of euros wagered with various betting operators on the Romanian couple’s victory in the game. The television images had reconstructed the game, with two double fouls by the Russian and a clumsy attempt to avoid the second rebound of the ball at another point. Eight months later, when Sizikova returned to Paris, she was notified of her arrest.
