Table of Contents
GymBeam, the online retailer of nutritional supplements, has experienced remarkable growth as its founding in 2014, recently earning its founder, Dalibor Cicman, a place among Slovakia’s wealthiest individuals. The company’s rapid expansion, fueled by strategic market penetration and substantial investment, offers a compelling case study in modern e-commerce success.
From Local Roots to International Expansion
Founded in Košice, Slovakia, in 2014 by Dalibor Cicman, GymBeam initially focused on providing nutritional supplements to fitness enthusiasts. The company quickly identified a gap in the market, achieving nearly tenfold revenue growth in its first year. This momentum has continued unabated, with GymBeam reporting sales of almost €166 million in 2024 – a figure representing only the Slovak portion of the group. Consolidated sales for the entire holding company reached €224 million in 2024, marking a 27% year-over-year increase.
GymBeam’s success is directly linked to its expansion beyond its domestic market. The company now operates in fifteen countries in addition to Slovakia, with particularly strong growth observed in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and Poland. According to the company’s annual report, GymBeam boasts a customer base of 2.2 million active users, with order volume increasing by 23% year-over-year.
Securing Funding for Continued Growth
In November, gymbeam announced it had secured €30 million in investment to bolster its expansion plans and accelerate growth in Western and Central European markets. This investment is being supplemented by an additional €80 million in financing from banks, bringing the total available capital for growth to €110 million. This influx of capital signals strong investor confidence in GymBeam’s continued trajectory.
A Culture of Ambition
recent reports of GymBeam’s team-building events, drawing comparisons to scenes from “The Wolf of Wall Street,” have sparked discussion about the company’s corporate culture. While the events have generated attention, they also underscore a bold and ambitious spirit driving the company’s rapid ascent.
The December issue of INDEX magazine will feature a comprehensive overview of Slovakia’s wealthiest individuals and business trends.
GymBeam’s story is a testament to the power of identifying market opportunities, executing a focused growth strategy, and securing the necessary capital to scale. The company’s continued success will be closely watched as it navigates the competitive landscape of the European nutrition and fitness market.
