Slovakia Issues Fog Warnings: Reduced Visibility Expected Tuesday Morning

A widespread fog advisory has been issued for all of Slovakia, with visibility potentially dropping to as low as 50 meters in some areas on Tuesday morning. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) has issued a first-level warning, urging caution for all travelers.

The advisory, currently valid until 10:00 a.m. local time, highlights the significant risk the fog poses to traffic safety. “Reduced visibility is a potential hazard for traffic activities,” a spokesperson for SHMÚ stated.

Regional Impact and Specific Locations

The fog is expected to be particularly dense in several key regions. The Slovak Road Administration is closely monitoring conditions and has reported visibility limited to 50 meters in Banská Štiavnica, Sekule, and Banská Belá. Conditions are slightly better, with 100-meter visibility, in Šturec, Švábovská strán, Košice, Čaňa, Haniska, Poprad, Šahy, Šibenik, Zdoba, Vajkovce, Štós, Trnava, Malacky, Kechnec, Záborské, and Závod.

Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, and increase following distances. Drivers should also ensure headlights are properly functioning and consider delaying travel if possible.
