Ryker Smith, Son of Wallabies Legend, to lead Queensland reds U16s Against NSW Waratahs

The queensland Reds U16s squad is set to face the NSW Waratahs this Saturday, october 11th, at Forshaw Park in Sydney, with a spotlight on rising star Ryker Smith. The son of former Wallabies great George Smith, Ryker has quickly made a name for himself and earned a starting position at No. 8 for the crucial Super Rugby U16s clash.

Rising Star Earns His Stripes

Ryker Smith recently showcased his talent coming off the bench in a dominant 69-6 victory against Victoria at Ballymore Stadium last friday. He made an immediate impact, contributing a skillful offload that led to a try for Mitch Durrheim. According to the Reds U16s coach, Welmar Du Plessis, “Ryker is quite physical and a strong ball-carrier. we thoght he had a really good impact off the bench and hopefully we’ll see more of that on Saturday.” Du Plessis further emphasized Smith’s performance, stating he was “definitely one of the best backrowers at the recent Emerging Reds Cup.”

The 16-year-old Smith, who attends St Andrew’s Anglican College and plays club rugby with the Noosa Dolphins, is known for his powerful ball-carrying abilities, consistently demonstrated during the KDL Property Group Emerging Reds Cup.
