Notable improvements are coming to intercity (IC) rail service, especially on weekends. The frequency of trains between major cities like Charleroi and Brussels, and Liège and Brussels, will be increased to run between one and two trains per hour. This expanded schedule aims to accommodate leisure travelers and provide more flexible options for weekend getaways.
Notably, the new liège-Brussels train will now include a stop at Brussels Airport, offering a seamless connection for air passengers. The city of Leuven will also benefit from the upgrades, receiving a third IC train per hour to and from Brussels. Furthermore, the IC train route between Antwerp and Leuven, utilizing the Aarschot line, will now operate on weekends as well, expanding accessibility for residents in those areas.
Enhanced Commuter Rail Around Brussels
Beyond the intercity improvements, commuters traveling around Brussels will see increased service frequency during the week. A new schedule will provide an S4 train running between Aalst and Brussels-Luxembourg every 30 minutes. Similar improvements are planned for the S7 line, connecting Hal and Vilvoorde, and the S3 line, serving Denderleeuw and Grammont.These increased frequencies are designed to alleviate congestion and provide more reliable service for daily commuters.
