Table of Contents
A commanding performance in Jacksonville propelled the North Florida (UNF) softball team to an 11-3 run-rule victory over Auburn on Thursday afternoon, marking their first win of the 2026 season and a significant milestone against Power Four competition. This decisive win signals a strong start for the Ospreys and builds upon a recent trend of success against top-tier opponents.
Ospreys Secure First Power Four Win in Nearly Two Years
UNF’s triumph over the Tigers represents their first victory against a Power Four team in regular season play since a 6-1 win against Iowa at the UNF-JU Classic on February 25, 2024. The Ospreys have now secured Power Four wins in each of their last three victories, including a pair of wins against Virginia during the NCAA Regional Tournament. Auburn entered the 2026 season receiving 16 votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball national rankings, adding to the significance of UNF’s achievement.
Early Lead and Resilient Response
The Ospreys wasted no time establishing control, scoring four runs in the first inning. The scoring was fueled by a combination of Auburn fielding errors, a bases-loaded walk earned by Caiden Oliva, and a timely sacrifice fly from Kelsey Vogel. While Auburn mounted a comeback in the third inning, scoring three runs, UNF’s defense held firm. Pitcher Kate Peters expertly navigated a bases-loaded situation, inducing a crucial pop-up to limit the damage and maintain a one-run lead.
UNF immediately answered Auburn’s rally with an RBI from pinch-hitter Kennedy McQuillan and an RBI single from Hallie Langford, extending their advantage. Further capitalizing on Auburn errors in the fourth and fifth innings, alongside a fielder’s choice and an RBI single from Grace Shaw, the Ospreys continued to build their lead. A dominant fifth inning, where Peters retired the side in order, sealed the 11-3 run-rule victory.
Key Performances Drive Ospreys to Victory

Grace Shaw contributed significantly with 3 RBI, while Caiden Oliva was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. For Auburn, Kyla Stroud recorded 2 RBI.
