Glean Redefines Workplace Productivity with AI-Powered Knowledge Platform, Announces Key Engineering Role

Glean, a rapidly growing innovator in the field of Work AI, is transforming how organizations manage and access information, boosting productivity and collaboration through its intelligent platform. Founded in 2019, the company is now actively seeking a skilled software engineer to join its Insights team, signaling continued investment in its core technology and expansion.

Founded on the principle of solving a critical workplace challenge, Glean emerged from Founder & CEO Arvind Jain’s observation of the difficulties employees face navigating fragmented knowledge and a proliferation of SaaS tools. “Seeing firsthand how fragmented knowledge and sprawling SaaS tools made it difficult to stay productive,” led Jain to create a better solution – an AI-powered enterprise search platform.

Today, Glean integrates seamlessly with popular workplace applications like Google Drive, Slack, and Microsoft Teams, ensuring employees can quickly locate the information they need. The company’s cutting-edge AI technology doesn’t just find information; it simplifies knowledge discovery, allowing teams to more effectively leverage their collective intelligence. Glean has evolved beyond simple search, now offering an AI assistant and powerful application- and agent-building capabilities.

Glean’s Insights Team: A Critical Role in Data-Driven Growth

The newly advertised software engineer position is within the Billing and Insights charter, a team responsible for the foundational elements of Glean’s consumption-based pricing, product analytics, and user targeting. This team manages the entire data pipeline – from logging and usage tracking to the creation of insightful dashboards and a self-serve log platform. A key component of their work involves developing natural language query (NLQ)-powered agents, enabling users to ask questions in plain language and receive accurate, explainable answers.

According to a company release, the role will focus on building and maintaining the systems that make Glean’s value “visible and trustworthy.” The engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing data pipelines, backend services, and customer-facing experiences. Close collaboration with Product, Data Science, Finance, Marketing, and Go-To-Market teams will be essential to ensure data accuracy and alignment across internal and external reporting.

Key Responsibilities for the Software Engineer Role

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Design and implement reliable data pipelines and services to summarize deployment log data into daily metrics at the user, team, department, and agent levels, powering the Insights dashboards.
  • Build and maintain backend APIs and services connecting product logs, data warehouses, and the Insights user interface, prioritizing correctness, debuggability, and speed.
  • Contribute to the NLQ for Insights initiative, expanding the agentic loop and tool library to enable more sophisticated natural language queries.
  • Develop a user targeting platform to support marketing and growth campaigns.
  • Improve observability, alerting, and backfill workflows for Insights jobs, ensuring rapid identification and resolution of metric issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align internal dashboards and external Insights views on key definitions like active users, assistant usage, and utilization, supporting usage-based pricing and renewals.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Glean is seeking a candidate with at least five years of industry software engineering experience, including demonstrable ownership of production services or analytics systems. Strong proficiency in building backend services and APIs using languages such as Golang, Java, Typescript, or Python is required, along with a willingness to work across the full stack. SQL proficiency and experience with modern data warehouses or analytics stacks are also essential.

Location, Compensation, and Benefits

The position is a hybrid role, requiring four days per week in Glean’s San Francisco office. The standard base salary range is $140,000 to $265,000 annually, with compensation determined by factors including location, experience, and skills. Eligible candidates may also receive variable compensation and equity.

Glean offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, vision, and dental coverage, a generous time-off policy, and a 401k plan. New hires receive a home office improvement stipend, as well as annual stipends for education and wellness. The company emphasizes a vibrant company culture with regular events and daily catered lunches.

Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Glean is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. “We are a diverse bunch of people and we want to continue to attract and retain a diverse range of people into our organization,” a company spokesperson stated. Glean does not discriminate based on gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, civil or family status, age, disability, or race.
