Actor Sohail Chowdhury’s murder case verdict has been announced. Judge Arunabh Chakraborty of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 announced this verdict today. Sohel Chowdhury’s daughter Lamiya Chowdhury reacted after hearing the verdict.
Lamia Chowdhury said, ‘My father will not come back. They (criminals) have to answer for what they have done. Whether it’s their lifetime or whatever, the impact my father’s death has had on my life will not change in any way. I have to live with reality. Now nothing has changed in their judgment, nor will it.’
In the judgment of the case, the court sentenced film producer and businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Trump Club owner Afaqul Islam alias Bunty Islam and Adnan Siddiqui to life imprisonment. All three of them are absconding. Apart from this, the remaining six accused including Ashish Roy Chowdhury and Emon have been acquitted.
Lawyers and sources related to the court say that five of the 9 accused in the case are absconding. They are businessmen Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Afaqul Islam alias Bunty Islam, Salim Khan, Haroon or Rashid. Apart from this, accused Ashish Roy Chowdhury, Tariq Saeed Mamun and Farooq Abbasi are on bail. Sanjidul Islam Imon is in prison.
On December 18, 1998, Sohail Chowdhury was shot dead by an assailant in front of Trumps Club in Banani, Dhaka. In this incident, his brother Touhidul Islam Chowdhury filed a case in Gulshan police station as the plaintiff.
