Zach Sokoloff Campaign Reports $307K Fundraising Total, Positions for LA Controller Race

A strong fundraising start signals a competitive race for Los Angeles City Controller as Zach Sokoloff’s campaign announced it raised $307,591 by the December 31 deadline. The campaign, launched on November 1, is already gaining traction with endorsements from prominent figures and a growing war chest.

Early Momentum and Key Endorsements

Sokoloff has quickly secured the backing of two former Los Angeles City Controllers, Laura Chick and Rick Tuttle, who collectively served 24 years in the office. This support underscores the importance of experience and oversight in the role. Further bolstering his campaign, endorsements have also come from Speaker of the California State Assembly Robert Rivas, Assemblymember Rick Chavez Zbur, and LAUSD School Board Member Nick Melvoin.

“Voters want oversight and accountability at City Hall heading into 2026, something that’s been lacking since Ron Galperin left the office,” stated a campaign consultant. “The momentum is real. Angelenos crave change in this critical office and these fundraising numbers reinforce that sentiment.”

Financial Standing and Campaign Strategy

With over $500,000 cash-on-hand, the Sokoloff campaign is establishing itself as a leading contender in the race. The campaign is focusing on a message of change and more effective leadership within City Hall.

“I’m grateful to every Angeleno who has entrusted me to steward City Hall through this challenging time,” said Sokoloff. “Angelenos want government to work better. They want a Controller who will pair real accountability with real results – and ensure our tax dollars are spent making LA prosperous, affordable, and inclusive.”

A Background Rooted in Education and Finance

Sokoloff’s career path reflects a diverse background. He began as an Algebra I teacher at Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School in Boyle Heights and Jordan High School in Watts, before transitioning to a career in finance and accounting. In this role, he has overseen complex economic development projects aimed at driving investment and growth throughout Los Angeles.

Calls for Increased Accountability

Former Los Angeles City Controller Laura Chick voiced strong support for Sokoloff, criticizing the current officeholder. “For nearly three years, LA’s City Controller, elected to be the taxpayers’ watchdog, has barked loudly but done little to improve the City or the lives of its people,” Chick said. “Zach Sokoloff is the only candidate with the courage and integrity to restore transparency and accountability to City Hall. He will follow the money, expose waste, fraud, end foolish spending, and demand answers to the most important questions: How are we doing, and how can we do it better? I’m proud to give Zach Sokoloff my enthusiastic endorsement to be LA’s next Controller.”

Sokoloff emphasized the campaign’s commitment to engaging with voters. “Generating this level of support so early in the campaign shows that voters understand what’s at stake,” he added. “We plan to talk to every single voter in Los Angeles, delivering a message of change and common-sense financial leadership – and we’re just getting started.”
