Fatima O. is a young mother currently experiencing homelessness. On Friday, November 28, she left the location where her child is being cared for and was en route to a night shelter when the attack occurred. Around 4 p.m., as she walked along the Canal du Midi in front of police headquarters, Muhssim A. grabbed her, pulling her into a grove.
“He Tried to Pull Down My Pants”
According to police interviews, the victim recounted that Muhssim A. “jumped on me and said, ‘I want you’… Then he touched my breasts and he said he was going to rape me.” She was then violently bitten in the face, causing significant bleeding. She was pushed to the ground, and the assault continued until witnesses intervened.
“He lay on me, he touched my whole body… He lifted my sweater and he tried to pull down my pants, but I managed to block him,” the victim stated. A jogger running along the canal heard her cries and witnessed the attack.
Witnesses Intervene, Face Bloody
The jogger saw Muhssim A. fully on top of the victim, who was screaming and struggling. “He was giving her violent blows,” she reported. Along with a second witness, she immediately called the police. A third person, observing from a balcony, also alerted authorities, describing a man seemingly attempting to rape a woman.
Attacker Briefly Returns, Then Arrested
After witnesses intervened, the prosecutor described the victim’s face as “bloody, especially around the left eye, but also around the mouth,” with bloodstains on her sweater sleeves. Her wallet and cell phone were also missing, allegedly stolen during the attack.
Muhssim A. initially fled but then returned to insult the victim, retrieve a scarf, and calmly walk away. He was later found and arrested by municipal police in the Roosevelt alleys, though not without resistance.
Legal Proceedings Reveal Troubled Case File
Initially prosecuted for attempted rape and robbery with violence, the charges were later amended to sexual assault by a person in a state of obvious intoxication, a repeat offense, and violent theft. The case file was noted to have several deficiencies, including a lack of medical examination of the victim, as she proved difficult to locate.
Prior Conviction Questioned
During the trial on January 27, 2026, before the Toulouse criminal court, Muhssim A. offered an inconsistent account, claiming he hadn’t touched the woman and mistook her for a police officer. When asked by the presiding judge if he had been convicted of sexual assault in 2020 for a 2018 incident, he remained silent.
Four Years Imprisonment, Deportation Ordered
Muhssim A. was acquitted of the violent theft charge due to issues with evidence handling. However, he was sentenced to four years in prison for the repeat sexual assault. He will also be permanently banned from French territory and registered with Fijes, a system for tracking foreign nationals subject to deportation.
