Some flights to Eindhoven canceled due to climate protest

by time news

Eindhoven Airport had already warned that the demonstration could have consequences for the journey to, from or via the airport. Transavia has canceled five flights from and five flights to Eindhoven. These are flights to Salzburg, Gran Canaria, Faro, Alicante and Palma de Mallorca, and flights from Alicante, Seville, Salzburg, Palma de Mallorca and Gran Canaria.

Extinction Rebellion previously said it expected about five hundred demonstrators. According to the climate movement, the demonstration on the boulevard next to the terminal will last from 12:00 to 13:30. A spokeswoman for the action group did not rule out participants entering the airport grounds, as previously happened at Schiphol. ‘But frankly that doesn’t seem very sensible to me; this is military territory.’

At the beginning of November, demonstrators from Extinction Rebellion and Greenpeace climbed over the fence at Schiphol to the area where private planes were parked. The group took place under several jets and chained themselves to prevent the planes from taking off. Police detained hundreds of activists.
