Somnia Unveils Data Streams, Pioneering real-Time Blockchain Reactivity
Table of Contents
Somnia, a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain, is introducing a new era of onchain application advancement with the launch of Data Streams, a capability enabling real-time data subscriptions directly on the blockchain. The network, wich has surpassed one billion transactions, aims to redefine how applications interact with blockchain data, moving beyond traditional, static methods.
A Shift to Dynamic, Event-Driven Blockchain Interaction
Traditionally, accessing blockchain data has relied on polling and indexers, processes that introduce latency and increase costs.SomniaS Data Streams bypass these limitations by offering a subscription model that delivers direct, low-latency streams of information. This architectural shift represents a move from static data retrieval to a dynamic, event-driven system, aligning the blockchain ecosystem with the responsiveness of modern applications.
“Somnia Data Streams makes blockchain development feel immediate,” stated a company representative.”It gives developers the responsiveness they expect from modern infrastructure, but with the trust and transparency of building directly onchain.”
Lowering Barriers to Entry for Developers
The new system introduces new Read/write Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs) designed for high performance, allowing applications to subscribe to live blockchain data and receive automatic updates as the state changes. This simplifies onchain development by natively handling live data updates and authentication, allowing developers to concentrate on product creation rather then infrastructure management. The experience is designed to be familiar to developers accustomed to platforms like Firebase or modern cloud databases, while still maintaining the security of verifiable onchain state.
Developers can begin experimenting with offchain reactivity today, with a public Software Development Kit (SDK) and documentation already available. Mainnet support is slated for mid-November, accompanied by an example implementation for hands-on exploration.Full onchain reactivity is planned for testnet by year-end, with a mainnet launch following the finalization of gas kickback mechanics.
Expanding Use Cases across Industries
Real-time data streaming unlocks a wide range of possibilities for applications across various sectors. Builders can now power live prediction markets, reactive games, and automated insurance products that execute instantly based on verifiable data. Game studios can track in-game events onchain, financial applications can adjust positions in real-time, and insurance contracts can trigger payouts automatically – all without intermediaries or delays.
“Somnia exists to make building onchain applications practical at scale,” said Herman Narula, Founder of Somnia and CEO of Improbable. “Data Streams extends that vision by enabling developers to create connected, bright experiences that react in real time.”
Strategic Partnerships and Future Focus
this proclamation builds upon Somnia’s recent collaboration with Google Cloud, which introduced AI agent tooling, enhanced security through Mandiant, and real-time analytics via Pub/Sub and BigQuery. The company will now focus on showcasing real-world applications and data partners leveraging these new capabilities, highlighting emerging commercial use cases powered by live, reactive onchain data.
Developers can access the testnet SDK and documentation, and register for updates, at somnia.network.
About Somnia
Somnia is positioned as a leading EVM Layer 1 blockchain, designed to bring the world’s data onchain with speed and efficiency. The network currently processes over 1 million transactions per second (TPS) with sub-second finality and sub-cent fees, even during peak usage. Its innovative design incorporates Multistream Consensus, accelerated sequential execution, the IceDB database, advanced compression techniques, and instant reactivity to onchain events directly in solidity.Somnia aims to be the only blockchain fully equipped for real-time, reactive, mass-consumer decentralized applications (dApps).
