Sonego outclasses Bublik and wins the Metz tournament

The Italian won with authority against Alexander Bublik (7-6 (7/3), 6-2) at ATP 250 in Metz. He thus gleans the third title of his career.

Italian Lorenzo Sonego, 65th in the world rankings, won the ATP 250 tournament in Metz on Sunday by outclassing Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik (44th) in two sets 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 and 1h26 in the final. .

The Transalpine won the third title of his career after Antalya (2019) and Cagliari (2021) and thus completed an almost perfect week at the Moselle Open where he did not lose a single set.

On Saturday, he had already created a surprise by beating in two sets 7-6 (7/5), 6-4 the Pole Hubert Hurkacz, defending champion and 10th in the ATP rankings, without conceding any break points.

This victory will reassure Sonego who had a difficult 2022 season (18 wins, 24 losses) after having had a prosperous year in 2021 with in particular a title and a final on the circuit which had enabled him to reach his best world ranking, 21st, at the end of the year.
