Sophie Kinsella, Beloved Author of ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic,’ Dies at 55

The acclaimed British novelist, known for her witty and heartwarming stories, passed away on Wednesday, December 10th, after a battle wiht cancer.

Sophie Kinsella, born Madeleine Sophie Townley, has died at the age of 55, her family announced. The author, celebrated for her hugely popular confessions of a Shopaholic series and numerous other bestsellers, revealed in 2024 that she was undergoing treatment for brain cancer, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Kinsella “passed away peacefully,after spending her final days surrounded by her beloved family,music,warmth,Christmas and joy,” her family shared in a statement posted to Instagram.
