Woman’s Desperate Plea for Diagnosis as Mysterious Illness Ravages Her Life

A 45-year-old woman is urgently seeking a medical breakthrough after a years-long battle with a debilitating and undiagnosed illness that has left her housebound and in constant pain.

Sophie Labbé’s health began to decline significantly in April 2025, but her medical journey started earlier, following the birth of her son in 2019 when she lost a kidney. Shortly after, she began experiencing new and unexplained allergies. While initially manageable, her condition has spiraled into a complex web of symptoms that have baffled doctors.

A Cascade of Unexplained Symptoms

Labbé’s current condition is characterized by a multitude of debilitating symptoms. She spends much of her time seeking care in emergency rooms and hospitals, undergoing numerous examinations, yet a definitive diagnosis remains elusive. “I spend my time in emergency, in hospitals to see doctors and they can’t find what I have,” she confided in a recent interview.

Beyond the constant, burning pain she describes as feeling “like I have acid all over my body,” Labbé suffers from a rapidly expanding list of allergies. These now include common foods like mustard, onions, tomatoes, broccoli, and green peas, as well as textiles, forcing her to wear only 100% cotton clothing. She also experiences significant loss of balance and severe skin problems.

A Dramatic Decline in Physical Health

The impact on Labbé’s physical health has been devastating. Despite consuming four meals a day, she has lost 38 pounds in recent months, dropping from 128 pounds to 90. This weight loss, coupled with her other symptoms, has rendered her almost entirely unable to care for herself.

“I can no longer leave the house, I can no longer wash myself, I sleep one to three hours a night, I can no longer drive or do my grocery shopping. I really don’t do anything anymore,” she explained. Her life has been reduced to existing within the confines of her room, 24 hours a day.

Fighting for Her Son

Despite the overwhelming challenges, Labbé finds strength in her six-year-old son. She is able to continue providing care for him with the support of loved ones, and this responsibility is the primary reason she hasn’t pursued medical assistance in dying, an option she admits she has considered. “I can’t live like this anymore…but I’m not doing it because of my boy,” she stated. “I no longer have any social life, I don’t leave the house anymore, I no longer function.”

A Desperate Search for Answers

Currently awaiting an appointment with an immunologist – a wait that could extend for several months – Labbé is making a public appeal for anyone with similar experiences or a doctor who might be able to offer a diagnosis. She hopes to find a treatment and regain some semblance of a normal life.

A fundraiser has been established to provide financial support as Labbé is no longer able to work. Those wishing to contribute can do so [here](link to fundraiser – placeholder).
