South Africa vs India: Two wickets lost today; India set a good lead in Centurion

Centurion: Team India resumed batting on the fourth day looking for a huge lead in the Centurion Test against South Africa (South Africa vs India 1st Test) 79-3 in the second innings at the end of the first session. Skipper Virat Kohli 18 * and Cheteshwar Pujara 12 * at the crease. If Mayank Agarwal lost yesterday, today Shardul Thakur and KL Rahul took wickets in the first session. India now lead by 209 runs.

India started the fourth day at 16 for one. KL Rahul (five) and Shardul Thakur (four) were at the crease. Rabada, however, added another six runs to the individual score and put Thakur in the hands of Mulder. KL Rahul, who scored a century in the first innings, could not go much further. With 23 off 74 balls, Rahul was bowled out by Ngidi and Elgar.

South Africa, who had earlier chased down India’s first innings score of 327, were out for 197 on the third day. Mohammad Shami took five wickets for 44 runs in 16 overs. Shami ruled out Aidan Markram, Keegan Peterson, Themba Bauma, Vian Mulder and Kagiso Rabada. With this, Shamim became the fifth Indian pacer to take 200 wickets in Tests. Themba Bawuma is South Africa’s top scorer with 52 runs. Captain Dean Elgar returned for a run. Shardul Thakur and Jaspreet Boomra took two wickets each while Mohammad Siraj took one wicket.

Opener KL Rahul’s seventh Test century helped India reach 327 in the first innings. Rahul scored 123 off 260 balls. Fellow openers Mayank Agarwal (60), Ajinkya Rahane (48) and skipper Virat Kohli (35) were the top scorers. Cheteshwar Pujara became the Golden Duck. For South Africa, Ngidi took six wickets, Rabada three and Johnson one.
