This Saturday, South Africa announced on Saturday that it was withdrawing its candidacy to host the Women’s World Cup in 2027.

South Africa announced on Saturday that it was withdrawing its candidacy to host the Women’s World Cup in 2027, preferring to avoid showing a “presentation made in haste» at Fifa in December.

The deadline for submitting precise plans from candidates to host this competition has been set for December 8 by the International Football Federation. “We felt that it was better to present a better prepared application for 2031, rather than showing a presentation made in haste“, declared the head of the South African Football Federation Lydia Monyepao.

After this withdrawal, three candidates remain in the running to host the 2027 World Cup: one submitted by Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany; another from the United States and Mexico; and finally, one from Brazil. The choice of the country(ies) selected will be made during the FIFA congress organized next May in Bangkok.

The last Women’s World Cup was jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand in the summer of 2023 and was won by Spain.
