A Falcon 9 rocket launched the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Euclid telescope into orbit. It is aimed at studying the dark matter of the universe. As reported by the developer company SpaceX on Twitter, the device was launched from the base of the US Space Forces at Cape Canaveral in Florida.

Euclid will cross the solar system and then get to the second Lagrange point (L2) (located 1.5 million km from Earth). The European Observatory needs to conduct a detailed study of galaxies in order to obtain new data on dark matter and dark energy.

The project is estimated at €1 billion and is designed for six years. The first data is expected to be received in 2024. Euclid is equipped with a 1.2 m telescope, an optical camera, a spectrometer and a near-infrared photometer.
