The president of Spain, Pedro Sanchezcondemned this Tuesday Iran’s missile attack on Israel and asked to end “the spiral of violence” in the region. In addition, in a secondary message, the Foreign Minister called for “containment” among the parties.

“The Government of Spain condemns Iran’s attack against Israel and asks that this spiral of violence ends now“, indicated the president through his X account.

“To achieve peace, a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon is essential, and that international law is respected and international humanitarian law,” said Sánchez, who added that he had just spoken with the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, about “the alarming situation in the Middle East.”

For his part, Minister José Manuel Albares told the “Ser” radio network that his country’s march made “a new appeal to all actors, including Israel, to containment, to non-escalation, to responsibility“.

Albares said that last week he met in New York with his Iranian counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and asked that his country “not use violence and that it use all the leverage it has over its related groups, whether Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen or the Shiite groups in Iraq to contain this escalation.”

Iran fired hundreds of missiles at Israel on Tuesday, where the air raid sirens rang out after the army urged the population to prepare for a “large-scale” attack by the Islamic Republic.

The Israeli military claimed that it intercepted a large number of the missiles fired.
