The editors from the TV show Aquí la Tierra visited several destinations in Central and Southern Bulgaria, getting to know our unique nature, way of life, traditions and culture.

As part of its large-scale campaign to popularize Bulgaria among foreign markets, with the aim of attracting tourists to our country throughout the year, the Ministry of Tourism has partnered with the Spanish television TVE, as in the period 20-22 March a television team of the popular show Aquí la Tierra filmed a series of reports about our country. During the three-day trip, a team of editors of the show visited several destinations in Central and Southern Bulgaria, getting to know and documenting for their viewers some of the cultural and historical sights, traditional Bulgarian crafts and curious culinary delights typical of the regions they visited , reported the Ministry of Tourism.

In the company of experts as well as a professional tour guide, the Aquí la Tierra team started their tour with a visit to Koprivshtitsa, a city full of rich history and an authentic Renaissance look. The pre-prepared program by the Ministry included a walking tour through the streets of the city, a visit to museum houses, including a visit to a private home, with a demonstration of culinary specialties by a hostess in national costume, as well as lunch in a local restaurant, with a tasting of traditional the region’s specialties.

Another stop on the TV team’s tour was a sheep farm in the village of Buta, where the owner of the farm – Ana Minkovska, introduced the guests to the traditional Bulgarian methods of fermenting yogurt and making sheep’s cheese, demonstrating the processes. During the visit, the TV team showed an extreme interest in the processes, and in their materials the journalists emphasized the uniqueness of Bulgarian yogurt and its “miraculous” characteristics, which are also due to the unique bacterium found only in Bulgaria – Lactobacillus bulgaricus .

The editors’ tour also included a visit to the city of Pazardzhik, where the Spanish TV team learned about the city’s cultural and historical heritage and visited its sights, including: the church of St. Bogoroditsa” – the largest revival church in Bulgaria, the birthplace of the writer and politician Konstantin Velichkov – an architectural, artistic and historical cultural monument of national importance, as well as the community center “Videlina”, an architectural and historical cultural monument, built at the beginning of XX century.

At the end of their tour through Central and Southern Bulgaria, the Aquí la Tierra team visited the internationally recognized carpet workshop “Hemus”, located in the village of Kostandovo, near Velingrad, where they got to know the different techniques in the traditional making of carpets and rugs hand, as well as with individual design projects that can be found in some of the most prestigious buildings around Europe.

Aquí la Tierra is a specialized TV show broadcast by the Spanish public television TVE and co-produced by the production company “Catorce Comunicación”. In their episodes of Aquí la Tierra, the editors of the popular show visit curious destinations, sharing their impressions. The topics they cover are: gastronomy, with an emphasis on traditional recipes, including refracted through the modernist view of today’s chefs, local crafts, nature, climatology, ecology, geography, cultural and historical landmarks, archaeology, customs that distinguish each area, highlighting what makes a particular place unique and special . The topics that Aquí la Tierra touches on attract over 10% of the Spanish audience, with daily television enjoying over 1 million viewers. The show itself has a 9-year history and is broadcast in prime time – from 8:30 to 9:00 p.m. p.m., every day except Saturdays.The show also has a strong presence online as well as on social media, with over 200,000 followers on its channels.
