Since lakhs of devotees are likely to visit Rameswaram on the occasion of Tai Amavas to offer thithi darpanam to the ancestors, special buses have been arranged from Chennai on behalf of the transport department.

Lakhs of devotees visit the Ramanathaswamy temple in Rameswaram, Ramanathapuram district, which is a holy place equal to the world-famous Kashi, and the Agni Theertha on Amavasi days to offer thithi and tarpanam to their forefathers.

In this case, Tai Amavasi, one of the first three new moons that can occur annually, falls on Friday, February 9.

On that day, many devotees come in buses and offer tithi and tarpanam to their forefathers by placing sesame pindams on the beach of Agni Theertha, then bathe in all the 22 Theertha wells inside the Ramanathaswamy temple and worship Ramanathaswamy Parvathavartini Ambala.
