On the night of Thursday 22 to Friday 23 June, a spectacular escape took place at the Coyah remand center, a bush located 50km east of Cona-crime. No less than 81 convicts made their way. According to the pro-crier general at the Court of Appeal of Cona-cris, Yamouss Conté, an armed attack would be at the origin of this escape.
Yamouss said it was around 11 p.m. that heavily armed individuals attacked the detention center. They did not hesitate for a second to hold the prison guards respectful, before allowing “their loved ones” and a large number of prisoners to escape. The fellows have vanished. “The Coyah Civil Prison was attacked by a group of armed men, around thirty. After putting the guards to respect, they managed to free half a hold,” the prosecutor said.
Charles Wright becomes voice
In a statement issued on Friday June 23, the Garde des Sots, Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Alphonse Charles Wright, said that the attack on the prison by “individuals not yet identified, resulted in the escape of 81 detainees, of whom only 5 were taken back by the mixed patrol” of the security services. He denounces an attack “in a cowardly manner, to penitentiary establishments in an attempt to escape the rigor of the law for the thugs”. According to the Minister, this is the only possibility left to offenders, since the establishment of a criminal policy “rigorous in the fight against serious crime through the repression of offences”.
A who’s fault?
As if to blame the state, Charles Wrong says that in the face of the situation, the state must assert itself with rigor. This would consist of strengthening the security measures of the bled’s penitentiary establishments. He cites article 48 paragraph 1 of the Penard Code of Procedure which provides: “Taking into account the context specific to his jurisdiction, the Public Prosecutor implements the criminal policy defined by the general instructions of the Minister of Justice, specified and if necessary adapted by the Attorney General”.
Then, the Minister of Justice instructed the pro-criers general at the Courts of Appeal and the pro-criers of the Republic “to require the public force, for better security in accordance with the provisions of articles 37, 41 and 52 of the Code of Criminal Procedure “. He says he attaches paramount importance to the execution of this instruction and orders the opening of an investigation “to identify the perpetrators and sponsors of this attack”. Wow!
