‘Sports’ brings together 360 people with mental health problems in the Mar Menor

On this occasion, the program included the practice of eleven different sports categories. The day was divided into three zones and two participation shifts. The first, and the one with the most activity, was at the San Javier Municipal Sports Center, where sports such as athletics, badminton, basketball, rugby, paddle tennis, beach volleyball, hockey, decathlon and even Cartagena bowling were held. Within the athletics modality, disciplines such as high jump, relays or shot put, among others, could be practiced. Additionally, within the sports center, a recreational area was set up with a multitude of activities such as music and dance to liven up the event.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Outside the sports center, two more activities were carried out. On the one hand, a hiking route through the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar Regional Park – the five kilometers of the Tarays path. Another option was to sail the waters of the Mar Menor; a canoeing activity with kayak, dragon boat o paddle surf. It should be noted that, for people who have mental health problems, practicing sports can minimize symptoms, in addition to increasing self-esteem, improving social skills, improving physical fitness and abandoning isolation. Two councilors from San Javier and two others from San Pedro del Pinatar also attended, who shared the presentation with the vice president of the Murcia Region Mental Health Federation, Delia Tophamand with the secretary of the Federation and president of AFEMAR, José Ramón Sáez.
