Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has been awarded the Sports Icon by the Maldivian government. The award is given for his achievements in cricket.

Sports Icon Award:

Suresh Raina is the most important player in the Chennai Super Kings team. Raina, who played for the Chennai Super Kings, became the first player to score 5,000 runs in an IPL match.

Under the current Maldives Sports Awards, the Sports Icon Award was presented to Suresh Raina by the Maldivian government. Along with him, 16 international athletes were also nominated for the award.

Raina was nominated for the award along with 16 international players, including Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell, former Sri Lankan cricket captain Sanath Jayasuriya, Brazilian footballer Roberto Carlos and Dutch footballer Edgar Davids.

Highlights of attending the awards ceremony:

The award ceremony was attended by the Honorary President of the Maldives Tennis Association Ahmed Nasir, the President of the Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the Minister of Sports and the Deputy Minister of Sports of Saudi Arabia Al-Qadi Badr.
