Spotify launches competitor Clubhouse – Vedomosti

by time news

The Spotify audio streaming platform has unveiled a new Spotify Greenroom app that lets you create audio rooms, listeners can join the broadcast, and the host can give them a voice.

The app also has a text chat that can be turned off, and after the broadcast ends, its recording can be downloaded and edited – for example, to turn it into a podcast, the company said.

The app is available for iOS and Android users in 135 countries around the world, but so far only in English.

Spotify announced the acquisition of Betty Labs, developer of the Locker Room app, a competitor to the Clubhouse social network, in March this year. The company renamed the Locker Room app to Greenroom.

Earlier, the function of voice chats was launched by Telegram, after which Russian mobile operators reported a drop in traffic on the Clubhouse social network. The social network Clubhouse is developed by the Silicon Valley company Alpha Exploration. It has no videos, photos, text or private messages. All communication takes place only by voice and in real time in separate rooms.
