A devastating unit fire in BrisbaneS Spring Hill neighborhood has left three people hospitalized, including one man in life-threatening condition, and prompted a crime scene declaration as investigators work to determine the cause. Emergency services responded to the blaze at a Water Street address just after 3 a.m. on Thursday.
Emergency Response and Injuries
Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics transported three individuals to area hospitals following the fire. A man in his 80s sustained “significant burns” and is currently in life-threatening condition. A woman in her 30s suffered “serious burns” and was also transported in a possibly life-threatening condition. A third individual, whose age remains unknown, was admitted in stable condition.
The rapid response of emergency personnel was crucial as the unit complex was immediately evacuated to ensure the safety of all residents.
Fire Contained, Investigation Underway
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) successfully brought the fire under control within approximately 20 minutes of arrival. All firefighting crews had cleared the scene by 5:30 a.m. The blaze originated on the third floor of the complex, but the extent of the damage beyond that floor is currently unknown.
Authorities have declared the site a crime scene,and Queensland Police investigators are expected to begin a thorough examination of the area today to ascertain the origin and cause of the fire.At this time, the cause remains undetermined.
“It is indeed not yet clear what sparked the fire,” a senior official stated.
