Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down as captain after the T20 World Cup failure. This time the Sri Lanka Cricket Board chose the experienced Charith Asalanka in his place. 27-year-old Asalanka has been named as the captain by the Lankans for the T20 series against India.
Asalankai was the frontrunner in Hasaranga’s place. Earlier, this batsman was Sri Lanka’s part-time captain. Jaffna Kings also won the LPL title under his leadership. Asalanka also has the experience of leading Sri Lanka in the Youth World Cup.
Dinesh Chandimal is the surprise in the Lankan T20 team against India. This right-handed batsman has returned to the team after a long time. He last played T20 international for Sri Lanka in 2022. Experienced all-rounder Angelo Mathews did not have a place in the team.
The three-match T20 series against India will begin next Saturday at Pallekele in Kandy. In the meantime, the Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav has reached Sri Lanka to play the series. After the T20 series, the three-match ODI series will begin on August 2 in Colombo.
