Sri Lanka Minister Kehalia Rambukwella Resigns After Drug Procurement Scandal

Colombo, Sri Lanka Minister Kehalia Rambukwella, who was arrested on charges of procuring drugs through forged documents, has resigned from his post.

Kehalia Rambukwella, 70, was appointed Minister of Health during President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s regime in our neighboring country, Sri Lanka.

When he was the Minister of Health, the Sri Lankan Health Department officials said that he had procured a drug called Immunoglobulin through a pharmaceutical company headquartered in the Gujarat state of our country.

These medicines were also distributed to hospitals there between July and September last year.

In this case, there was an allegation that this medicine was procured through fake documents under the National Medicines Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka.

In the investigation conducted by the police in this regard, they confirmed this allegation. Following this, the police arrested six senior officials of the health department in December last year.

Following this, Minister Rambukwella was also arrested for masterminding this.

In this case, Rambukwella has written a letter of resignation to President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday that he is resigning from the position of Environment Minister. It has been reported that President Ranil Wickremesinghe has accepted this.
