Sri Lanka must uncover the background to the bombings on Easter day: Pope Francis
Vatican: Expressing his condolences to the families of the victims of the series of bombings on Easter Sunday in Sri Lanka three years ago, Pope Francis has called for the truth behind the attack to be revealed.
At the same time, it noted the severe economic crisis currently facing Sri Lanka and prayed for a recovery from its historical experiences.
Pope Francis said this while addressing a gathering of about 3,500 Sri Lankan Catholics working in Italy, led by Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith of Colombo, including the families of the victims of the 2019 terrorist bombings.
A series of bomb blasts during the Easter Sunday prayers in Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019 killed 270 people. 500 people were injured, including 45 foreigners. 3 churches, 3 star hotels were severely damaged in the attack.
