Former Sri Lankan cricketer Lahiru Thirimanne was seriously injured in a road accident. The severity of the injuries is not yet known. The former Lankan captain has been admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. Cricket-based website ESPN Cricinfo said the situation is now stable.

Thirimanne and his family were going to the temple by car on Thursday morning (March 14). At a place in Anuradhapura, they had a head-on collision with their car coming from the opposite direction. This caused the front part of Thirimanna’s car to twist.

A statement regarding Thirimanna’s accident was released by his team New York Superstar Strikers in the Legends Cricket Trophy. The party said Thirimanne was injured but his family is safe.

In a statement, the party said, ‘We want to inform you that Lahiru Thirimanne and his family met with a car accident while on their way to the temple. They have been admitted to the hospital for observation. They are all safe and sound, nothing to worry about.’

Thirimanna has a long career for Sri Lanka. Since his debut in 2010, the left-hander has played a total of 44 Tests, 127 ODIs and 26 T20Is for the national team. Scored 5 thousand 573 runs. Along with 31 fifties, there are also 7 centuries. He was a member of the T20 World Cup winning team in 2014.
