Speaking to Arab News, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ameer Ajwad said that the best decision to provide visa-free access to Saudi citizens in Sri Lanka is to promote tourism and increase business exchanges between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia. It will prove to be an important tool, increasing public relations and this year the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries is also being celebrated.

It should be noted that in its announcement on Thursday, the Sri Lankan government has allowed visa-free access to citizens of 35 countries, among these countries are United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, China, America, India, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Australia. , Denmark, Poland, Kazakhstan, Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, France, Canada, Czech Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Israel, Belarus, Iran, Sweden, South Korea, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and New Zealand, Russia and Thailand included.
It should be noted that according to data provided by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority in July, Saudi Arabia is the third largest source of tourists for Sri Lanka. The fair also helped promote the peninsular country as a destination in 2024, including showcasing its tourism products.
