A state of emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka. As the curfew was lifted, the army engaged in intensive patrolling the streets of Colombo. The crisis intensifies for the president to form a national government.
The situation in Sri Lanka is tense due to the economic crisis. In this context, the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa met his brother, His Excellency Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Following this, it was reported that Mahinda Rajapaksa had resigned as Prime Minister and handed over the letter to Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. Another source said that Gotabhaya had refused to accept Mahinda’s resignation letter.
However, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister’s Office said yesterday that reports that Mahinda Rajapaksa had resigned were false and that there was no such plan at present.
Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son, Youth Welfare and Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has announced his resignation.
He said on Twitter, “I have informed the Secretary to the President of my resignation from all departments with immediate effect. I hope this will help the Prime Minister’s decisions to bring stability to the people and the Sri Lankan government. I will support my constituents, my party and the people of Hambantota, ”Namal Rajapaksa wrote.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that all the other ministers in Sri Lanka except Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa have decided to resign
It is learned that the decision was taken at a cabinet meeting lasting till midnight.
