In this situation Gotabaya Rajapakse has every right to return to Sri Lanka and at the same time he should be investigated for misappropriation of government funds, Sri Lanka’s main opposition Samagi Jana Palavekaya party has insisted.

Party president Ajit P Perera said, “Gottabhaya Rajapakse is a citizen of this country and he has the right to return to his motherland. No one can deny this right. However, he should be investigated for alleged financial irregularities. He was accused of spending government funds on his parents’ memorial. .As per the Constitution he has no legal immunity at present, he can be investigated and punished if found guilty,” he said.
