Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has taken steps to restructure public transport amid a recession.

Transport Minister Bandulla Gunawardena’s announcement is aimed at easing the living burden of ordinary people as Sri Lanka struggles for fuel. Gunawardena said it was the most appropriate decision at this time. Gunawardena told a meeting at the Sri Lanka Railways headquarters that more trains would be run due to fuel shortages. Thousands of people queued up for cooking gas and petrol in the Sri Lankan capital yesterday. The queue of people stretched for about a kilometer.
