Staff Badminton Tournament Fosters Community and Sportsmanship

A spirited badminton competition, themed “Chinese Dream, Beauty of Labor, Good Xinjiang – Forging a Strong Community,” brought together faculty and staff on April 30, showcasing both athletic prowess and a commitment to camaraderie. The event, sponsored by the school trade union and co-organized by the Sports Department, underscored the importance of physical activity and community building within the institution.
Opening Ceremony and Competition Overview
The tournament was officially launched with opening remarks from Baihetiyaer Muhetar, a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of the School. According to a statement from the school, Muhetar also served as the first player to initiate the competition. Li Mengyuan, director of the Sports Testing Center, meticulously outlined the competition system, ensuring a fair and organized event. Ji Huilan, executive vice chairman of the school trade union, skillfully hosted the opening ceremony.
A total of 60 faculty and staff members representing 16 grassroots trade unions participated in the tournament. The competition was thoughtfully structured into four distinct groups – middle-aged women’s, men’s, young women’s, and young men’s – allowing for diverse participation and competitive balance. Referees and scorers were comprised of dedicated teachers from the Ministry of Sports and enthusiastic student volunteers from the Sports Association. The tournament employed a single-knockout match format, with team rankings determined by a point system based on individual player performance.
A Display of Skill and Spirit
The atmosphere during the games was electric, characterized by intense focus and genuine enjoyment. Players demonstrated a wide range of skills, strategically employing both powerful smashes and delicate drop shots to outmaneuver their opponents. “The players were fully devoted and enjoyed themselves,” one observer noted, highlighting the positive spirit of the competition.
The dedication and tenacity displayed by the participants resonated deeply with the audience, eliciting enthusiastic cheers and applause. Players exhibited a relentless fighting spirit, refusing to concede even in challenging moments.
Tournament Results and Recognition
Following a series of fiercely contested matches, the Ministry of Sports, the School of Finance and Taxation, and the School of Accounting emerged as the top three teams in the overall standings. The School of Statistics and Data Science, the School of Tourism, the School of Government, the School of Finance, and the Logistics Apartment Service Center were all recognized with group encouragement awards for their spirited participation.
Individual accolades were also presented:
- Middle-aged Women’s Group: Su Ling (School of Accounting), Dai Wenhui (School of Finance), and Mao Zhirui (School of Statistics and Data Science) took the top three positions.
- Middle-aged Men’s Group: Wang Baoqing (School of Sports), Wu Peiqin (School of Tourism), and Du Shuzhang (School of Finance and Taxation) were recognized for their achievements.
- Young Men’s Group: Liao Yuanlin (School of Finance and Taxation), He Na (School of Sports), Xu Yaqun (School of Accounting), Ruan Wenwei (School of Accounting), Tan Qingshan (School of Sports), and Wang Jingtao (School of Journalism and Communication) secured the top three spots.
