EVANSTON, Ill.,December 29,2023 – A promising start to the new year is on the horizon for Stanford wrestling,but frist,a look back at a challenging showing at the 61st Ken kraft Midlands Championships. The Cardinal finished 16th overall at the prestigious tournament, held Tuesday at Ryan Fieldhouse.
Freshman Borelli Leads Stanford at Midlands

True freshman Brokton Borelli immediately made an impact in his collegiate debut, securing a fourth-place finish at 197 pounds and leading Stanford’s contingent.Redshirt sophomores Zach Hanson (165 pounds, 6th place) and Abraham Wojcikiewicz (184 pounds, 5th place) also earned spots on the podium, showcasing the program’s depth.
Rutgers dominated the competition, claiming the team title, followed closely by Pittsburgh and Bucknell. Stanford accumulated 26.5 team points throughout the two-day event.

125 Pounds
Adam Mattin went 0-2, falling to #17 Koda Holeman of cal Poly (7-4) and Colin Limbert of Pittsburgh (7-4). Edwin Sierra posted a 1-2 record, losing to Christia Castillo of Iowa state (4-0) and Matt Marlow of Pittsburgh (8-2), but securing a major decision victory over Rocco Hayes of Virginia (8-0).
133 Pounds
Wyatt Richter also finished with a 0-2 record, dropping matches to #25 Marcel lopez of SIU edwardsville (9-0) and Andrew Austin of Central Michigan (17-4).
