Nedunkandam: The players of Idukki performed brilliantly at the state judo championship which is being held at Ramakkalmedu. Sandeep Shaji won the gold medal in the junior boys’ under 55 kg category. R. of Idukki. Praveen won silver in the same category. Anitha Haridas of Idukki won gold in the junior girls under 44 kg category. Silver is Megha Soman of Idukki. Sandeep Lalu also won silver medals in the minus 66 kg, Arjun Ajikumar in the minus 81 kg, Arunima Biju in the minus 48 kg and Vaishakhi Ajikumar in the minus 63 kg. Abhimanyu N. Rajeev, Sofia Kunjumon, Anashwarashaji and Maria Vincent also won bronze medals. The judo championship was greeted with excitement by the locals. The organizing committee welcomed the players with excellent food and accommodation not available at other championships. On the second day of the state judo championship, which reached the hilly soil for the first time, Ramakkalmedu won the hearts of the athletes. Unlike the previous championships, the resort at Ramakkalmedu has provided excellent accommodation in collaboration with the Homestay Associations.
