Jon Ruben’s wife, Susan Ruben, labeled him a “sadistic, monstrous paedophile” while addressing the court on Friday, according to reports. Her statement came as part of ongoing proceedings related to allegations against her husband.
“He is in fact a sadistic, monstrous paedophile,” Susan Ruben said, as reported by sources present at the court. She added that Ruben was “not the man I thought I had married” and that “my life has been turned upside down.”
Guilt and Betrayal
Susan Ruben stated she felt completely betrayed, saying, “I believed we understood and supported each other. I have now found out I have no idea who Jon Ruben is.” She also expressed deep guilt regarding the location of the offenses.
“I feel terribly guilty that the offending against the children happened at an event I helped organise,” she said. “But it was Jon and Jon alone who was behind what happened.” She described a disturbing contrast in Ruben’s behavior, stating, “In one moment, he was gathering children around the campfire and then the next, he was perpetrating the most awful crimes against the children and myself.”
Susan Ruben described her husband as manipulative, stating she is “still unable to come to terms with the manipulation from Jon and hiding in plain sight.” She added that he “thinks he is untouchable – and that he can assert control over the others and play games with their bodies and their health.”
She emphasized the vulnerability of the victims, saying, “It’s even worse that he did this against innocent vulnerable children.”
According to Susan Ruben, Jon Ruben attempted to explain his actions to authorities by citing issues with their sex life. However, she refuted this, stating, “He painted himself as a Christian man and a pillar of the community.”
Camp’s Purpose
Susan Ruben explained that the camp, in which she had been involved for 34 years, was intended to provide positive experiences for children. “The camp was meant to provide ‘moments of happiness’ for children who would not usually have a chance to have a holiday in the countryside,” she said.
