Belgian cycling, cradle of great champions, continues to add young talents ready to shine in the most demanding races on the world calendar. One of those names that is starting to resonate strongly is Lennert Van Eetvelt, who at just 23 years of age has shown that he is not just a promise, but a nascent reality.

In the recent Giro de Lombardia 2024, Van Eetvelt finished seventh, an exceptional performance considering the physical difficulties he had to overcome on the day. In his subsequent statements, the Lotto Dstny cyclist confessed that from the beginning of the race he was not in the best of his condition: “At the beginning of the race I had a bit of nausea and some eating problems, as a result I ate little . After 3 or 4 hours of running I was fine, but after 5 or 6 hours I felt the difficulties.” Despite everything, he managed to overcome it and move forward in one of the toughest tests of the season.
Aware of his limits, Van Eetvelt decided to follow his own pace, intelligently managing the uphill effort and closely observing what was happening in the group of favourites. The key moment came when Slovenian Tadej Pogacar launched his attack. “I could only try to follow Remco, for myself and also so that the people at home could shine,” he explained, showing his determination and desire to leave a good image, both for himself and for his country.
This seventh place in a demanding classic like Lombardy is not just any result. It’s a clear sign that Lennert Van Eetvelt is ready to compete side by side with the best in the world. In a country that breathes cycling, his performances made it clear that he is not just a promise in training, but a rider who is already starting to show signs of the possibilities he could have in the future.
