CGCOF and FEP Strengthen Community Pharmacist Role

The CGCOF and the Spanish Federation of Pharmacy (FEP) formalized their collaboration in October 2025 with an agreement designed to elevate the role of community pharmacists. The partnership will prioritize joint scientific, educational, and training initiatives to improve patient care and strengthen community ties.

CGCOF Responds to Proposed Statutory Framework for Health Personnel

The General Council of Pharmaceutical Colleges issued a response in March 2025 to the preliminary draft of the Framework Statute of the Statutory Personnel of the National Health System (SNS). The CGCOF advocated for a revised personnel classification, specifically requesting the creation of a level A1+ designation for pharmacists, citing their extensive 300 ECTS training and significant contributions to the healthcare system.

CGCOF Applauds Royal Decree on Health Product Financing

The CGCOF celebrated the approval of a Royal Decree concerning the financing of health products in February 2026. This long-awaited standard is expected to strengthen the role of community pharmacies in dispensing medications, ensure uninterrupted treatment for patients, and improve access to innovative therapies.

Despite the increasing prominence of digital healthcare solutions, in-person consultations remain crucial for building patient trust and providing effective health education. This was a key takeaway from discussions at ‘A pie de calle,’ a forum focused on the evolving role of the pharmacist and the future of pharmacies as healthcare hubs.
