Market Movers: Health Care, Tech, Rare Earths, and More Drive Friday’s Trading
The U.S. stock market experienced a dynamic Friday, with significant moves across several sectors. Health insurance stocks led gains in the S&P 500, while the “Magnificent Seven” tech giants continued their recent rally. Concurrently, rare earth stocks surged on speculation of increased White House investment, and smaller companies like Rumble and SoFi saw notable activity following strategic partnerships and product expansions.
Health Care Sector Gains Momentum
Shares of Humana (HUM), Cigna (CI), and Centene (CNC) were among the top performers in the S&P 500 on Friday afternoon, jumping approximately 10%, 5%, and 5%, respectively. This surge followed an affirmation of guidance from Humana after an inadvertent release of government data related too its Medicare Advantage plans. Despite leading the charge, the Health Care sector as a whole was the second-best performer of the 11 S&P 500 sectors, trailing only Utilities, which saw gains of around 1.5% on the day.
The magnificent Seven’s Continued Ascent
Last year’s dominant tech leaders, often referred to as the “Magnificent Seven” – Apple (AAPL), Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOG)(GOOGL), Meta (META), and Tesla (TSLA) – are once again driving market gains. After a period of lagging the broader market for much of 2025, the group has rebounded sharply in september. The Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF (MAGS) is now up nearly 20% year-to-date, outpacing the S&P 500’s roughly 15% gain and more than doubling the benchmark index’s third-quarter performance.
According to a chief equity strategist at LPL Financial, the bullish momentum is fueled by strong earnings, expectations surrounding AI-driven growth, and easing interest rates. Though, some analysts caution about a potential “bubble” in AI, with even figures like Jeff Bezos acknowledging the difficulty in identifying future winners in the rapidly evolving field.

USA Rare Earth stock was up 15% in recent trading, building on a 23% rise the previous day. Lithium Americas gained 28%, while MP Materials, the top performer in the Russell 1000 this year, increased by 3%.

The stock rose 18% on the news, recovering from a more than 40% decline earlier in the year. The collaboration aims to enhance Rumble’s search capabilities and attract a wider user base.
