Everything was planned: a communication plan concocted at the minute, a presentation at the next Geneva show, which will be held from February 26 to March 3, 2024, a first marketing in limited edition, in Italy, with the furniture publisher Cassina, scheduled for mid-February. However, the new Lancia Ypsilon was prematurely presented to the world in completely unforeseen circumstances.

Tuesday, December 12, firefighters removed a white car from the waters of the Rhône-Rhine canal in Montbéliard (Doubs) which does not yet officially exist. The Ypsilon 2024 was voluntarily immersed in the waters of this canal, located a few meters from the Peugeot Stellantis factory in Sochaux, before being fished out. It was apparently stolen from a transport truck and no one has been apprehended until now.

From a factory in Spain… in Montbéliard!

The mystery remains complete as to its presence here, in the heart of industrial Franche-Comté. The pre-production vehicle is, in fact, assembled in a Stellantis factory (Lancia also belongs to the group) in Zaragoza in Spain! This Lancia, close to the Peugeot e-208, opens a series of three vehicles planned by the Italian brand until 2028.

The specialists had plenty of time to closely observe the photos of the vehicle emerging from the water. The transformations on this new generation of vehicles had to remain secret. The vehicle, damaged by its aquatic parking, was quickly taken to an unknown location, this time out of sight.

Confidentiality in step, the new Lancia Ypsilon will, truly, be marketed this summer. “It’s rather amusing,” noted a dealer from the Grand Est. As a result, there is a lot of talk about this new model and it interests customers. Finally, this episode of the channel could be effective in publicizing the future Lancia. »
