While states in the Midwest and Southeast were suffering from strong heat waves, the South was being punished, again, by heavy rains. And today (21), the government of Rio Grande do Sul confirmed yet another death caused by the floods that hit the state this weekend. The victim, a 67-year-old woman, was found dead inside a flooded house in Eldorado do Sul, 52 kilometers from the capital Porto Alegre.
This was the 7th death caused by storms in the region in recent days. Still in RS, a man had his car dragged by the current; and two women, mother and daughter, had their house buried. In Santa Catarina, a man was riding a watercraft and collided with electrical wiring, and two other women died after the car sank in an area flooded by rain.
According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the region remains under a warning of great danger for rain, and the temperature is expected to drop in the coming days.
