The CGT, the sector’s leading union, announced this Wednesday April 10 that it had filed notices from April 15 to September 15. An action accelerated by the end of the “taboo” on the dismissals of civil servants desired by Stanislas Guerini.

Something promised, something due. The CGT has filed strike notices in the three branches (State, territorial and hospital) of the public service running from April 15 to September 15 and which will therefore cover the period of the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11) and Paralympic Games (28 August-September 8), she announced this Wednesday April 10.

“We had already announced this possibility [de déposer des préavis], explains Céline Verzeletti of the CGT, especially if there were no satisfactory answers for the agents mobilized for the Olympics. Initial announcements could be reassuring, since finally there were criteria on compensation, commitments for the care of those who will work this summer, housing for those who will come to the Paris region. She nevertheless deplores: “We can clearly see that in the ministries, this is not available, in the local authorities, it is even worse. Many agents still don’t know what they are going to do this summer. It’s a real disaster.”

In a press release, the first public service union, which had already announced its intention to call a strike during the Olympics, requests in particular “sustainable recruitment, salary compensation for professional constraints generated by the Games, […] rights to leave, chosen teleworking and disconnection.

Christian Grolier, from the federation of civil servants of FO, joined by Libération, goes in the same direction as the CGT: “on May 6, all the federations of civil servants will meet at the headquarters of the CGT to see how we are going to oppose, by the balance of power, to the Civil Service bill of Minister Stanislas Guérini. We know that the Olympics are a means of pressure, we are going to use it. We must agree on the modalities of action, prepare meetings and general assemblies on the ground, in particular with the agents who will be very involved during the Olympics, whether in the hospital perimeter, in the sector security, technical and road services, trash collection, from customs officers.”

The announcement comes as Minister Stanislas Guerini announces that he is considering an end to the “taboo” on the dismissals of civil servants. “We also said that the general context would also count. When we see the state of social dialogue, comments Céline Verzeletti of the CGT, it is catastrophic because we are almost at a point of no return with Mr. Guerini. So it hastened the filing of notices a little. It clearly accelerates our mobilization process.”
