The 2024 European Football Championship in Germany is turning the usual calendar of events upside down. CSD, Jazz Open, Hamburg Fish Market – none of the events can take place as usual.
The Christopher Street Day (CSD) parade in Stuttgart will not end on Schillerplatz this year – as usual. This was announced by Detlef Raasch, board member of the CSD eV interest group, which organizes the CSD in the state capital, Stuttgart Pride, every year. The reason for this: the European Football Championship, because of which other events have already been postponed. Stuttgart is the host city at the European Championships and four of the games take place here.
30th Jazz Open will take place parallel to the CSD
The Jazz Open has slipped back in the planning for the European Football Championship. This means that the event clashes with the date of the CSD parade. This means that the parade and subsequent celebration would take place right next to some of the Jazz Open concert stages. The fact that the Jazz Open had to be postponed to allow for a European Championship public viewing led to controversy last year.

“The problem is not the Jazz Open,” said Raasch in the SWR interview. “I don’t expect them to take the CSD date into account in their planning.”

The country then noticed that the dates in the new planning clashed. This caused horror not only among the CSD committee, but also among the city’s employees. “My greatest thanks go to them. If they hadn’t looked for a solution as quickly as possible together with us and the organizers of the Jazz Open, we would have had to cancel the CSD this year,” explained Raasch.

“We have now moved our event to Rotebühlplatz,” said Raasch. “We expect losses in the five-digit range as a result.” The committee is therefore hoping for financial support from politicians to compensate for the setback. Even if a solution could be found, Detlef Raasch is angry.
