New Delhi: Engineer Turns to Farmer, Earns More Than Double His Salary
Working in the corporate sector is a dream for many people. However, some individuals eventually find themselves yearning for something different. Some of them decide to embark on their own entrepreneurial journey. Among those who took this leap is Rituraj Singh.
Once an engineer in a corporate company, Rituraj now dedicates himself to farming in his hometown of Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. He has not only managed to earn more than his previous salary of approximately Rs 65,000, but he also finds immense joy and fulfillment in his newfound purpose.
Inspired by the tranquility of his village, Rituraj decided to pursue a different path after the imposition of the Corona-induced lockdown in 2020. He discovered a newfound appreciation for his rural surroundings and the potential for meaningful work in his home village. His desire to contribute to his community led him to explore agricultural opportunities.
Starting with just 3 bighas of land, Rituraj ventured into dragon fruit farming in 2020, investing around 5-6 lakhs. While the initial profits were modest, his determination and hard work paid off. By the next year, his yield had doubled, and his income had grown to Rs 1.76 lakhs.
As his landholding increased to 4 and eventually 6 bighas, Rituraj’s success continued to blossom. In 2024, he harvested 40-45 quintals of dragon fruit, earning a staggering Rs 10 lakhs.
Rituraj’s journey demonstrates that with vision, determination, and a willingness to embrace change, one can find immense success and fulfillment outside the traditional corporate world.
