Sueña Teatro to Close Performing Arts Exhibition with Improvised Pirandello Comedy

A captivating blend of spontaneity and classic Italian drama will take the stage on Sunday, December 14, as the amateur theater group Sueña Teatro presents Luigi Pirandello’s “Tonight the comedy is improvised” at the Pilar Bardem Auditorium. The performance marks the culmination of the 12th Local Performing Arts Exhibition, showcasing the vibrant talent within the community.

A Celebration of Local Theater

Since its inception in 2013, Sueña Teatro has become a cornerstone of the local performing arts scene. The Local Performing Arts Exhibition provides a crucial platform for companies like Sueña Teatro, offering the opportunity to stage productions on a prominent municipal stage like the Pilar Bardem Auditorium. This year’s exhibition underscores the importance of supporting and nurturing local artistic endeavors.

“Tonight the Comedy is Improvised”: Blurring the Lines of Reality

Pirandello’s play centers around a unique theatrical premise: a director challenges his actors to treat the script as merely a suggestion, encouraging them to develop the play through improvisation. “A theater director summons the actors of a company to take the original text only as a simple guide from which the real play, a product of their own imagination, is developed, forcing them to improvise in front of the audience,” a company representative explained.

The resulting performance explores themes of jealousy within the La Croce family, set against the backdrop of a Sicilian town. Audiences can expect a dynamic and unpredictable experience as fiction and reality intentionally merge and confuse, extending the theatrical experience beyond the confines of the stage.

A Proven Track Record of Artistic Excellence

Sueña Teatro brings a wealth of experience to this production, having already staged 17 productions featuring works by renowned playwrights including Chekhov, Shakespeare, Lorca, and Molière. Their dedication to quality has been recognized with several awards, including accolades for their production of Federico García Lorca’s “La casa de Bernarda Alba” at the Villamuriel de Cerrato amateur theater festival in Palencia, where they received awards for best direction and supporting actress. They also earned recognition for best set design with their rendition of Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” at the ‘The election of the mayors of Daganzo’ competition.
