Sugar production increased to 82 lakh tonnes- Dinamani

During the period from October 1 to December 15 of the current market year, India’s sugar production increased by 5 percent to 82.1 lakh tonnes.

In this regard, a statement released by the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) states:

During the period from October 1 to December 15, the country’s sugar production is 82.1 lakh.

Sugar production was 77.9 lakh tonnes during the same period last market year. Compared to that, sugar production has now increased by 5 percent.

At the same time, sugar mills entered into contracts for export of sugar ranging from 45 lakh tonnes to 50 lakh tonnes during the assessment period.

Out of which 6 lakh tonnes of sugar has been exported till October 30.

Also, the country’s sugar export volume is estimated to reach 15 lakh tonnes by the end of Dimsab.

The sugar marketing year starts from October of each year and lasts until September of the following year.

In the previous 2021-22 marketing year, India exported a record 111 lakh tonnes of sugarcane.

Last November, the central government had given permission to export 60 lakh tonnes of sugar in the current (2022-23) marketing year.

Sugar production in Uttar Pradesh rose to 20.3 lakh tonnes from October 1 to December 15 of the current marketing year. It was 19.8 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous marketing year.

Sugar production in Maharashtra increased from 31.9 lakh tonnes to 33 lakh tonnes and in Karnataka from 18.4 lakh tonnes to 18.9 lakh tonnes during the assessment period.

India’s total sugar production in the current marketing year is expected to reach an all-time high of 410 lakh tonnes.

The sugar allocation for ethanol production in the current market year is estimated to be 45 lakh tonnes.

Therefore, net sugar production is expected to be 365 lakh tonnes by the end of the year, the report said.
